A Esfera que Flutua "" The Floating Sphere

  - As pessoas perdem a dignidade toda, assim.
  - Não sejas parvo! - exclamou Michael.
  - Vais tocar-lhe? - perguntou Rafael num tom de incredulidade.
  - O que é que te parece?!
E susteve a mão no ar.

" Once in a while, they'd let their minds wonder a little bit just by looking at each other and by looking around. They'd observe the clouds, look at the tall grass that had that distinctive and strong smell and all the tombstones that filled the square made by the black iron fence.
Sometimes they'd hear someone coughing or someone else sniffing and sticking their face in the old rag that they used as a tissue.
Michael wasn't feeling sad, but he was nostalgic, just like his brothers. He didn't know why or how they had gotten there, but it didn't make a difference. Whatever was, it just was. And so, because he liked observing, he started searching for a distraction in everything around him. Suddenly he could see how, even without any sunlight, everything was shinning  as if everything was crying. He could feel the wind blowing by his sweaty hands and, far away where the trees seemed to dance around in the wind, he could notice a spot that was glittering more intensely . He kept his eyes on it for a little while because he couldn't seem to make out whatever that was, but it vanished a bit after, so Michael went back to paying attention to everything surrounding him. Sad people dressed in black, that, after all the prayers and after the coffins went under the darkness of the pit, started dragging their feet back to their own lives. William and Muriel followed them while the brothers stayed for a little longer.
  - This is stupid - Rafael said.
  - What is?
  - All of this - he kept going. - I think it's stupid that they bury them.
  - Not everyone thinks like that - Gabriel riposted. - You don't have to be so rude.
  - People lose all their dignity like this.
  - Don't be an idiot! - Michael exclaimed.
And then he turned his back on them and started walking back to the exit, followed by his brothers.
He was about to reach the little, black iron gate that shut the square, when Gabriel grabbed him by the arm of his shirt that was on the reach of his fingers, because it was only covered by a shinny black vest.
  - Hey! - Michael grumbled - What?
  - Look - Gabriel said.
He was pointing at the trees, far away, where now they could see the odd, white glitter that Michael had seen before. A small, light colored circle that was floating in the wind along with the green leaves.
  - What is it? - Rafael asked to himself, even tho he did it loudly.
  - I don't know - Michael answered. - It looks like a smoke ball.
  - If it was a smoke ball, it wouldn't stay in the same place like that - Gabriel said.
  - I know, but i can't think of anything else that can hover like that.
Meanwhile, they had already forgotten the little gate and were walking towards what they still thought to be a smoke ball. For a second they were stopped from walking because of the little fence that, even having been forgotten, was still in their way. A little while after they had already gotten their legs over and it and it had now gone from being an obstacle to being just a part of the landscape.
  - Au! - Rafael grunted.
  - What is it?
  - I scratched my leg on this stupid fence! - he answered while he slapped it as if he was looking for a way to let that momentary anger out.
But that wasn't important, so, in a phew seconds, that pain had been replaced by a little more curiosity and the brothers kept heading towards the circle that was now hovering in the middle of three wizened logs that belonged to one of the trees a little bit more on the left than before, making it look like it had been dragged by the wind that was starting to grow stronger.
  - It's not smoke - Gabriel whispered to Michael.
He seemed not to want that thing to hear him.
  - It's not - Michael answered. - You can't even see through it.
And, as a matter of fact, they couldn't see either through or around what they had realized to actually be a sphere and not just a circle, for it had this strong, white, bright light all around it that made it contrast with both the dark of the forest and the cloudy sky, like it was a little sun floating in front of their eyes.
It didn't move when they came closer or when they came near the three wrinkly logs and looked at it for about ten minutes without saying a word. It looked like it was made of white, solid, heavy, dull glass and such features provoked Michael into touching it. After gathering his courage, he held out his hand in its direction.
The light that was coming out of it, was blinding strong, but to the brothers, that didn't make a difference.
  - Are you going to touch it? - Rafael asked.
  - What does it look like?
  - You don't even know what it is!
  - And i'm not going to find out what it is by just standing here.
After saying this, he looked back at the sphere.
He felt a bit afraid, but his curiosity was stronger and became even stronger when he realized that the white sphere was really made of smoke. It was cold, but, apart from that, he couldn't even feel it. It was like it wasn't even there, and yet, even though his hand was right there, inside it he couldn't see it anymore.
  - It is cold - Michael said.
  - And s... - Rafael started.
His sentence was interrupted when, suddenly, the sphere that hadn't moved until now, trembled."

One more excerpt that has a little more action. I haven't been posting that much lately, but I didn't stop writing and i hope i have the same or more support now from those who actually read and appreciate my work :)
